How to Add a Google Play Store Account to Android
If you are a highly technical person who is up for the challenge, you can install apps on your Android device manually by finding the app installation files (.apk), or even install a totally different mobile operating system if you prefer. However, if you are not interested in delving into such things and you just want to happily use your Android phone with your Google account, you will need to add it to your device in order to access the Play Store to download and install any apps.
A Google Play Store account is basically a Google account with a Gmail email address, which is a free email account that you can use for logging into almost any other Google services such as YouTube, Google Maps or Google Apps, in addition to logging in to the Play Store on your phone.
Creating a Play Store account, in other words a Google account, is pretty easy. You can sign up for a new account on a computer with Internet access, as well as on your phone, during your first login to the Play Store. The following steps in our tutorial will assume that you already have a Google account to add on your Android device; if you don't have one you can either create one before you start or when it asks during the account addition.
Now, let's see how a new Google Play Store is added to an Android device.
How to Add a New Play Store Account on Android
Before we start, let me mention that you can have multiple Google accounts on one Android device, but only one of them can be active at a given time. So, you can keep any previous accounts if you want and still add your new account, then you can switch between accounts any time you want. This is especially useful for those who share their phones with others or those who use multiple personal and business accounts.
The Android device I will be using in this tutorial is a Samsung Galaxy phone. Though the core principles will be the same, your device interface or how things work might be slightly different depending on your phone model and Android version.
STEP 1: Grab your phone and open the Settings page by tapping on its icon. You can usually find the Settings icon on the Apps screen, unless you moved it to somewhere else.
STEP 2: On the Settings page, select the Accounts tab from the top menu and then tap on the Add account option at the bottom of the My accounts list.
STEP 3: On the Add account page, find and select Google from the list of account types.
This will start the process of adding a new Google account to your phone.
STEP 4: On the next screen, it will ask whether you want to add a new or existing Google Account. As mentioned earlier, if you don't have an account, you can tap the New button to create one, otherwise, continue with tapping Existing button. If you create a new account, make sure to choose a strong password.
Signing in will take a few seconds depending on your Internet speed, once done it will ask you to set up payment info. Your payment information (credit or debit card) is required for purchases that you make on Google Play Store.
STEP 6: You can either enter your payment info now or skip it by tapping No Thanks button and you can come back to it at a later time when you want to purchase something from the Play Store.
STEP 7: In the final step, it will say Account sign-in successful and it will provide options to sync your contacts, app data, calendar, Gmail etc. Select the ones you want to sync and tap on the next arrow to finish adding your Play Store account to your phone.
You can now use your new Google Play Store account on your Android phone to download apps. If you ever need to remove an account from your phone, you can refer to our tutorial about removing Google Play Store account from Android.
