How to Add Facebook Header Photo to Your Profile
As the most popular social networking platform used by over a billion people across the world, Facebook is one of the few websites or apps that you would want to be on if you want to connect and communicate with your friends, followers, fans or customers. While simply creating an account in a few seconds will get you started on Facebook, if you want to establish a great personal or professional online presence, you will need to pay close attention to each aspect of your profile.
The profile header photo, or cover photo in other words, is one of the most important parts of your Facebook profile, hence it should be prepared with great care. Whether your purpose for being on Facebook is just to chat with your friends or present your business and engage with your customers, an appropriately selected header photo will increase the chances of your profile being visited by other users.
You can upload a header photo to your profile any time you want and you can change it as many times as you want. One thing to keep in mind is that regardless of your profile being private or not, header images are always visible to public; what this means is that you won't be able to set permission about who can see it. Once published, it will be seen by anyone who views your profile on Facebook, whether they are logged in or not. Uploading a new header cover photo will also create a status update on your timeline, which will most probably be seen by your friends and followers on their news feed.
You can use any type of image as your cover photo, such as your own photos, photos that you take with your phone, stock photos or even public domain photos that are freely available. You can use photo editing software or graphic design programs while preparing your Facebook header photo. Currently, there's no specific size or dimension limitations on the header photo, but keeping its aspect ratio (width:height) about 2.7 will give better results on varying screen sizes.
How to Upload Facebook Header Photo
STEP 1: Go to facebook.com and log in to your account.
When you log into your account, you will be welcomed by the Facebook home page. On the top navigation bar, you will see your name and profile icon.
STEP 2: Click on your name/profile icon to open your profile page. This is the page people see when they visit your profile on Facebook.
On your profile page, you will see the header photo area, or cover photo area, at the top of your profile page. If you haven't uploaded or selected any header photos yet, it will be displayed as a dark gray area. At the top left corner of this header photo area, you will see a small camera icon.
STEP 3: Bring the mouse cursor over that camera icon which will display the Add Cover Photo button.
STEP 4: Once the Add Cover Photo button appears, click on it. A small dropdown menu will appear with two options: Choose From My Photos and Upload Photo...
If you have already uploaded and shared some photos on your Facebook account and the photo that you want to use as your cover photo is among them, you should select Choose From My Photos option. If the photo is on your computer or phone, select Upload Photo... option.
STEP 5a: If you selected the first option, your Facebook photo gallery will be displayed in a popup window to let you choose the image you will use as the header photo. You can browse your recent photos or photo albums to locate the photo. Once you find it, simply select the photo by clicking on it and then save it as the header photo after positioning it as you wish.
STEP 5b: If you selected the second option, a file selection dialog will pop up and ask you to select the file on your system. Find and select the file to upload it. As soon as it is uploaded, the photo will appear in your header area. You can drag and reposition the image if you want or simply click the Save Changes button and be done.
Your Facebook header photo is now uploaded. From now on, anyone who visits your profile page or hovers over your name anywhere on Facebook (e.g. chat sections, friends lists etc.) will see your new header photo.
If you ever feel like changing your cover photo, you can easily do so by following the same steps above. This time, the button will say "Update Cover Photo", instead of "Add Cover Photo". While the current header photo is always public, your previous header photos will automatically be collected in your Cover Photos Album, from which you can set display permissions for each.
Now that you learned how to upload a cover photo to your Facebook account, it is time to prepare a beautiful cover image and put on your profile!
