The following list is not based on the actual visitor numbers or website traffic stats as only the owners of these websites have access to such information. We based our list on one of the most trusted and accurate Internet traffic analytics companies, Alexa.com and their Alexa Top 500 Global Sites list, which is compiled by a number of monthly traffic factors.
Now, let's start with our list.

Google, as you may already know, has been the number 1 search engine for many years now since it took the flag from Yahoo in mid 2000s. While its core search feature remained pretty much the same, although it went through a lot of algorithmic improvements to provide better search results, Google enhanced their brand by adding a lot of new services and products such as Gmail, Google Maps, Android and many others. There have been times when Google lost its #1 spot to Facebook but at this time it is sitting at the top of our list strongly.

YouTube is the most popular video sharing website that was acquired by Google in 2006. With over a billion users and hundreds of millions of videos watched on a daily basis, YouTube is definitely one of the first websites that is visited by its users regularly and that accounts for a huge percentage of the overall web bandwidth usage. YouTube is a great platform to spend your free time by seeing things you have never seen before and learning new things. Beware, though, as you may find yourself spending more time than you intended to while checking that neverending supply of related videos.

The number one social networking website, Facebook, quickly became one of the most popular websites in the world. Like a dense spider web, Facebook created a huge network of people around the globe. Most people use Facebook for keeping in contact with their family and friends but there is also a great deal of users who use Facebook to connect with their fans, followers and customers. Not only as a social network, but also with its like and share buttons all around the web, it seems that Facebook will continue to be a major player on the Internet for many years to come.

Baidu is the major search engine of China that slowly became one of the most visited websites in the last couple of years. Finding it at 4th spot on our list is no surprise considering the large population of China. Baidu is offered in Chinese language (as of now), though you can also make searches and find results in other languages if you couldn't find what you are looking for on other search engines.

Yahoo was once probably the most popular search engine in the world, before Google's rise. Though it is still used as a search engine by many, its Mail, News, Answers and Flickr services are now more popular compared to the Yahoo search. Having Yahoo at the 5th spot of the top 10 most visited websites list indicates that even though the competition with other websites and search engines is harsh, Yahoo has definitely been doing some things right to be at this spot.

I honestly don't remember where people found accurate information about anything they wanted to know about before Wikipedia. Wikipedia is the largest online encyclopedia, which has millions of pages about any topic that you can think of. Whatever it is that you seek information about, you can most probably find it on Wikipedia. It is an ever-growing encyclopedia that is available in dozens of languages and has many volunteered editors to keep the site up-to-date and accurate.
