How to Unpin Something on Pinterest

Pinning something and saving it to one of the boards on your Pinterest account is quite easy. But, what about unpinning it at a later time? In this tutorial, we will see how a pinned item can be unpinned from your Pinterest profile in simple steps.

Pinterest is a highly popular social sharing and bookmarking website which focuses on pinning (saving) great finds on the web to your account. It first started with invite-only membership and quickly spread around the world and today it is used on a daily basis by hundreds of millions of users for saving images that they find to be interesting.

You can pin practically any web page on Pinterest, as long as it has an image that can be used for the pinned item. From engaging posts on blogs to funny things on interesting websites, from beautiful photos to recipes, guides, products and deals, one can save almost anything on Pinterest. In short, it is a great platform to store and organize your bookmarks online, share them with family, friends and followers, and even with customers if you are running a business.

With the help of the Pinterest browser buttons for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, as well as the Save button for websites, pinning something on the web is quite easy. However, it may get a little complicated when it comes to unpin something from your Pinterest boards.

This post will guide you through the process of unpinning a saved pin on Pinterest.

How to Unpin a Pinned Item on Pinterest

There are times when we think of something to be cool and have this urge to save it for future reference, but when we check it after a certain time, we realize that it is not as cool as we once thought. For example, you may have pinned a lot of things over the years and got your Pinterest profile crowded with unwanted pins among with wanted ones. Or perhaps you pinned something by mistake and want to unpin it as quickly as possible before anyone sees it on your profile. For such reasons, it might be a good idea to clean your boards off undesired pins from time to time.

Here is how to do it.

STEP 1: Log in to your Pinterest account. You can use this link:

You will be welcomed with a selection of pins from topics or accounts that you follow.

STEP 2: Click on your profile icon on the top right corner of the page.

You should see your own profile icon if you had uploaded a profile image to your account earlier.

Clicking the profile icon will send you to your profile page where you can also see your boards.

STEP 3: Select the board in which the pin that you want to unpin is located.

I have created a sample board named Things with one pin in it -as can be seen in the above image- for this tutorial. You should directly click on the board to view the pins it contains. If you click the Edit button at the bottom, it will open board editing window which is not what we need.

Once you click on the board, all the pins inside it will be displayed.

STEP 4: Locate the pinned item that is to be unpinned.

If you have been using Pinterest actively for a couple of years, you probably have thousands of pins on many boards in your account. This may make finding the pin you are looking for a bit difficult.

STEP 5: Once you have found the pinned item, bring the mouse cursor over it. This will reveal some buttons on the image. Click the Edit button (pencil icon) as shown in the image below.

This will open the Edit this Pin window, where you can not only edit the pin details but also delete it.

STEP 6: On the Edit this Pin window, click Delete Pin button and then confirm to unpin the item from this board.

Note that if you have the same item (image, web page, etc.) pinned on multiple pin boards in your account, you will need to delete it from each of them in order to completely remove it from your account.

This concludes our tutorial. I hope that this tutorial will help you while unpinning items from your Pinterest account.
